Police Log: Meth Bust, Dog Fight, Near-Fatal Accident

Thursday, March 31

An East Bay Regional Parks helicopter spotted three juveniles tagging on a wall on F and 11th Streets. The pilot contacted UCPD and led officers to the juveniles’ location. One of the suspects was arrested and taken to juvenile hall.

Friday, April 1

Officers responded to to investigate a robbery report. A shopper claimed her was robbed at gunpoint inside the store. Officers reviewed surveillance footage and determined that the robbery did not occur. The “victim” gave false contact information and police closed the case as unfounded.

Saturday, April 2

A patrol officer noticed three individuals acting suspiciously in the parking lot. The officer made a routine investigative stop, which unfolded into a subsequent search of three parolees that led to several arrests and the recovery of methamphetamine, cell phone records of drug sales, cash and a scale.

In another meth case on Saturday, police were sent to a home on Deborah Drive to investigate a report of noise and someone “crying for help.” Officers searched the area but didn’t find anyone in distress. Instead, police found the original caller who was high on meth, in possession of a meth pipe and hearing “voices.” The person was arrested and taken to county jail.

 Sunday, April 3

Early in the morning, officers were sent to a business on Volpey Way after a loss prevention agent took a theft suspect into custody. The business had recently been several times and believed to be an inside job. A loss prevention agent hid and caught the subject, a recently fired employee, as he tried to open a door to the business. The case is beind reviewed by the district attorney’s office for prosecution.

Also in the morning, a mentally and physically handicapped woman was reported missing. Officers searched for her for several hours. She was later located in a Fremont neighborhood after knocking on doors for help. She was reunited at her care-home on San Andreas Drive.

Monday, April 4

A loose pit bull attacked another pit bull being walked on a leash by a 13-year-old on Whipple Road near A Street. The boy wasn’t able to control his leashed dog and both began fighting in the middle of the street. A passing officer saw the dog fight and used his taser to stop the aggressive dog from injuring the leashed pit bull. The aggressive dog was picked up by Animal Control and taken to the animal shelter.

Wednesday, April 6

A person was punched in the face, knocked to the ground and robbed of his wallet and belongings on Dyer Street near Alvarado Boulevard. An officer was sent to interview the victim at Washington Hospital, where he was being treated for several fractures to his facial area. The suspects ran away after the assault and were not located. The investigations unit is studying similar incidents in the area in an attempt to identify those responsible for the crime.

Thursday, April 7

A man suffered life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle accident that occurred around 3 a.m. The man, 19, was driving at a high speed westbound on Alvarado-Niles Road near I-880, hit the center divide and was propelled into the air. The collision broke the driver’s seatbelt and he was ejected from the car and was found more than 200 feet away from the vehicle alongside the freeway on-ramp. The driver is being treated at a nearby hospital. Police believe he may have been intoxicated. For the full story, .
