Police Log: Man Steals Purse From Unlocked Car at Gas Station; Reckless Driver Caught With Ounce of Weed

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the Union City Police Department. Released Dec. 6, the document contains only items of note that occurred Nov. 29 to Dec. 4. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style

THURSDAY, NOV. 29

Man steals purse from unlocked car at gas station

At 5:30 a.m., a woman was pumping gas at the Shell Gas Station located at 32187 Alvarado-Niles Rd.  A suspect described as: a black male adult between 27 and 33 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds reached into her unlocked car and took her purse. The suspect then fled the area with the property.

Later that day at about 3:55 p.m., a patrol officer saw a vehicle being driven recklessly in front of James Logan High School. The officer made an enforcement stop and noticed a strong odor of marijuana from within the vehicle. Over an ounce of marijuana and additional evidence connecting the driver to sales of marijuana was located during a search of the vehicle and driver. The driver was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale and reckless driving.

SATURDAY, DEC. 1

Defective light stop leads to drug arrest

On Saturday night at about 9:58 p.m., an officer was on routine patrol in the area of Whipple Road and Industrial Parkway when he saw a vehicle being driven with defective headlamps. The officer made an enforcement stop. The officer found 2.7 grams of methamphetamine in the center console along with drug paraphernalia and arrested the driver who claimed ownership.

SUNDAY, DEC. 2

Home burglarized on Karen Court

An officer investigated a residential burglary that occurred on the 32000 block of Karen Court sometime between 6 p.m. the night before and 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The suspect(s) pried the side garage door open to gain entry.

MONDAY, DEC. 3

At about 2 a.m., an officer in the area of Whipple Road and Industrial Parkway saw a subject he recognized as being on searchable probation walking towards the 76 gas station. The officer contacted the subject and found that he had a Taser tucked in his waistband, 5.9 grams of methamphetamine and a large amount of currency. The officer arrested the subject on suspicion of possessing of a controlled substance for sale.

MONDAY DEC. 4

Drunk driver crashes into garbage can

At 6:08 p.m., officers were sent to investigate a possible drunk driver who had crashed into a garbage can in the area of the 2400 block of Nevada Street. Arriving officers found the driver slumped over the wheel, passed out, and obviously intoxicated. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
