Recent police reports also include a number of DUI and domestic battery arrests.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the . The document contains items of note that occurred from April 6-10. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style.

The weekly blotter report also comes with the following messages from Cmdr. Ben Horner:

As you may be aware, last week our investigations section made involving a young juvenile victim named Vernon Eddins. Eddins was a 14-year-old African American male shot and killed in front of Barnard White Middle School on the last school day before Christmas in 2007. Although arrests were initially made in this case in 2008, successful prosecution was made difficult by the gang ‘code of silence’ and the ‘no snitching’ gang/thug culture. As time passed allegiances changed and our investigators were able to convince reluctant witnesses to come forward with information that allowed the district attorney’s office to re-file murder charges. All suspects are now in custody and currently awaiting a preliminary trail for gang related homicide.

On another note, we are seeing an increase in residential burglaries throughout the tri-city area.  We are studying this to determine if the spike is related to the early release of many criminal offenders, perhaps coupled with a tough economy.  Regardless of the reasons, we need to be diligent about securing and locking our homes, particularly rear and side yard sliders. If you do not know your neighbors take the time to introduce yourselves and look out for one another.  If you notice suspicious activity in your neighborhoods please contact the police department.
