Police Log: Pregnant Woman Punched by Baby's Father; Man Attempts to Choke His 2-Year-Old

Other incidents this past week include an argument between three men at a barbershop that led to one pulling out a gun, a son that assaulted his mother during an argument with her, and more.

 

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the . The document contains only items of note. The log contains incidents that occurred from May 4-10. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style.

Mother and adult son get into fight, son assaults mother and prevents her from calling for help

On Friday night, officers responded to the corner of Alvarado Niles Road and Central Avenue to investigate an in-progress battery between a man and a woman. Arriving officers interviewed the female victim and detained the male suspect as he was walking away. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the victim is the suspect’s mother. The victim had been driving and arguing with her son when he began to batter her and attempted to take the vehicle’s keys. The suspect also took the victim’s cell phone to prevent her from calling for help from police. The suspect was arrested for battery, criminal threats, and damaging a wireless communication device during the commission of a crime.

Barbershop fight between three men prompts one to pull out a gun

Additionally, Friday evening, two suspects entered a barbershop located at 32240 Alvarado Blvd. and got into an argument with a customer receiving a haircut. During the argument, one of the suspects brandished a handgun. The suspects are described as a black male adult, 6’2” tall and about 240 pounds; and a Hispanic male adult with a smaller build. They fled the scene, possibly in two separate vehicles. 

Shots heard fired, only bullet casings found when officers responded

Also on Friday night, officers responded to the area of Brenda Way and Medallion Drive to investigate a report of shots being fired. Arriving officers searched the area, but did not locate any victims or suspects. Bullet casings were recovered in the area, however.

Suspects attempt to rob customer leaving 7-11, but he gets away; shots fired

The night continued to be busy when officers responded to the strip mall on Decoto and Perry roads to investigate another call of shots fired. Arriving officers again found bullet casings in the parking lot. A store clerk from a nearby business reported that one group of suspects fired guns at a fleeing vehicle. During the course of the officer’s investigation, he was able to make contact with the victims that fled in the vehicle, and found that one of the victims had left the nearby 7-11 store and saw the subjects stalking him. The victim entered his vehicle and told the driver, his mother, to quickly drive away, as he was fearful they were about to be robbed. The suspects yelled something at the victims and shot at their vehicle as the victims drove away. 

Man on probation caught by police, attempts to flee while swallowing cocaine to hide evidence

Lastly, on Friday night, an officer on routine patrol in the WalMart parking lot at the Union Landing shopping center spotted a vehicle parked in one of the parking lot lanes with the engine running and the driver slumped over the steering wheel, as if he was asleep. The officer exited his vehicle and knocked on the window to waken the driver. The driver awoke and appeared to be "disorientated, fidgety and nervous." The officer had the driver exit the vehicle and his records revealed he was on searchable probation. The officer found the driver to be in possession of cocaine. The driver pushed the officer in an attempt to escape and swallow some of the cocaine to destroy the evidence. The driver was arrested for possession of cocaine, threatening a police officer, and battery on a police officer. 

 

Saturday, May 5

Man in argument with girlfriend gets angry, attempts to choke their toddler

On Saturday night (5/5), officers responded to a residence on the 2400 block of Diablo Place to investigate an in-progress family disturbance. Arriving officers met with the couple involved in the disturbance and found that they were involved in a heated argument while the male was holding their two-year-old child. During the argument, it appeared that the male was choking the child. A relative intervened and punched the suspect to get him to release the child. At the conclusion of the officer’s investigation, he determined that the suspect had endangered the child and arrested him for child abuse.

Monday, May 7

Man crashes car when his dog jumps into his lap 

On Monday night, officers responded to an auto accident in the area of Mission Boulevard near King Street. The driver of a first vehicle was traveling Southbound when his dog jumped onto his lap. This caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle and collide onto the center median and coming to rest. A second vehicle traveling Northbound on Mission Boulevard collided into vehicle #1, which was protruding into its lane. 

(No incidents of note on either Tuesday or Wednesday)

 

Thursday, May 10

Man punches girlfriend during argument over pregnancy

On Thursday, officers were sent to the Medallion apartments at 2500 Medallion Dr. to investigate an in-progress domestic battery. Arriving officers met with the victim while another officer found the suspect nearby and detained him until the details could be investigated. During the course of the officer’s investigation, he learned that the couple was expecting a child, which is what the couple was arguing about. The argument turned violent when the male half punched the victim, causing injuries. Alameda County Fire and paramedics responded to treat the victim. The suspect was arrested for domestic battery.
