Police Log: Man Flashes Gun in Krispy Kreme Parking Lot; 8-Year-Old Found Unattended in Street

The latest police log contains reports of a man arrested after brandishing a firearm at Union Landing, a child found unattended in the middle of a street and multiple DUI and drug arrests.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the . The document contains only items of note. Dated Feb. 29, the log contains incidents that occurred from Feb. 23 – 29. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style.

Thursday, Feb. 23

Police arrest resident on suspicion of identity theft

Police conducted a probation search of a subject’s home on the 33000 block of Calistoga Street. Detectives recovered numerous pieces of evidence connecting the subject to fraudulent use of credit cards and identity theft related crimes. The subject was arrested and transported to jail without incident.

Drunk drivers arrested

Officers conducting DUI special enforcement Friday night in the area of Santa Maria and San Fernando Way spotted a vehicle making an unsafe turning movement. The officer stopped the vehicle and noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from the driver and asked him to conduct field sobriety tests. The driver failed to satisfactorily complete the tests and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Also that night, an officer on routine patrol saw a vehicle being driven without its headlamps on in the area of Whipple Road and Amaral Street. The officer stopped the driver and, similarly, smelled alcohol on the driver. The driver failed a sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Later on Friday night, officers were sent to the parking lot to investigate a group of people causing a disturbance and brandishing a handgun. Officers in the area located the described suspect’s vehicle as it was being driven away and conduct a high-risk enforcement stop in front of Starbuck’s. Three subjects were detained and a loaded semi-automatic pistol was recovered from under the passenger’s front seat. After the investigation, one subject was identified and arrested on suspicion of brandishing a firearm while the other two were identified and arrested on suspicion of vandalizing a vehicle during the initial disturbance.

Saturday, Feb. 25

Husband arrested for domestic battery

On Saturday night, officers responded to an apartment at 1501 Decoto Rd. to investigate a domestic disturbance. Arriving officers met with the husband and wife who were engaged in an emotional argument. The investigating officer noticed that the wife had injuries to her arm caused by her husband. He was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and transported to jail without incident.

Man arrested for driving while drinking alcohol from a plastic cup

An officer on patrol in the area of Whipple Road and Hayman Street saw a vehicle traveling in front of him swerving in and out of oncoming traffic. The officer stopped the driver and immediately detected an odor of alcohol. The officer asked if the driver had had anything to drink. The driver responded “no,” while the passenger responded “yes” and produced a red plastic cup containing an alcoholic beverage. The passenger was detained while the driver was given a series of field sobriety tests. The driver failed the tests and was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Sunday, Feb. 26

Man arrested for possessing morphine pills

On Sunday night, an officer in the area of Whipple Road and Central Avenue conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation. During the stop the officer found the driver to be in possession of morphine sulfate pills that did not belong to him. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and transported to jail.

Two arrested on meth charges

Officers working a DUI special enforcement saw a vehicle weaving within its lanes in the area of Mission Boulevard and Whipple Road. The officers made an enforcement stop of the vehicle and contacted the driver. The driver appeared very nervous and exhibited signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. The officers evaluated the driver and determined he was under the influence of methamphetamine and arrested him on suspicion of driving while under the influence of a controlled substance. The passenger was found to have a syringe loaded with suspected methamphetamine and also under the influence of a controlled substance. Both subjects were transported to Fremont jail.

Domestic disturbance call leads to drug arrest

Later in the night, officers responded to the area of Decoto Road and 3rd Street to investigate a domestic dispute between a man and a woman. An officer found the couple in the area and determined that they had been engaged in a verbal argument only. However, during their contact, the male subject had four baggies of marijuana on him and additional evidence suggesting that he was engaged in marijuana sales. The officer arrested the subject and learned he was on searchable probation. Pursuant to the subject’s probation, the officer searched his nearby residence for additional evidence. The subject voluntarily told the officer he had additional marijuana hidden in a car parked in the driveway. The officer recovered the additional marijuana and transported the subject to Fremont Jail.

Tuesday, Feb. 28

8-year-old found unattended in street

Officers responded to the area of 13th and I streets to investigate a report of an 8-year-old child standing in the street, possibly lost. A citizen and a city employee reported the incident and stood with the child until police arrived. The child appeared to be developmentally delayed. The child was taken into protective custody and taken to Child Protective Services. This case is being reviewed by the district attorney and Child Protective Services.

Man arrested for possessing meth

Later in the night, officers responded to the 30000 block of Periwinkle Drive to investigate a suspicious person in a parked vehicle. Arriving officers found the man sitting in the driver’s seat of the described vehicle and contacted him. The man was evasive in answering the officer’s questions and displayed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. After evaluating the subject, the officer determined that he was not under the influence but located 1.6 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on his person and in his vehicle. The subject was arrested without incident.

Wednesday, Feb. 29

Car thief arrested

On Wednesday night, a citizen called to report that her vehicle had just been stolen from her home on Polaris Avenue. An officer patrolling the area saw the vehicle being driven into a strip mall on the corner of Alvarado Boulevard and Dyer Street and conducted a high-risk stop. The driver was arrested, and the two passengers were released at the scene.

Drunk driver arrested after fumbling U-turn

Also in the night, an officer on routine patrol saw a vehicle make a U-Turn on Alvarado Boulevard near Fair Ranch Road. While completing the U-Turn, the driver drove up and over the sidewalk and back onto the roadway erratically. The officer made an enforcement stop and after a series of sobriety tests arrested the driver on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
