Police Log: Man Caught With Nearly $6,000 of Meth; Woman Rescued After Crashing Near Railroad Tracks

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Union City between March 28 and April 1 as released by the Union City Police Department. Reports have been edited for Patch style.

THURSDAY, MARCH 28

14 arrested in prostitution sting

Fourteen individuals were arrested following a prostitution sting at a the Crowne Plaza Hotel led by the Union City’s community policing unit and the Alameda County Vice Enforcement Team. A majority of those arrested were area residents from Union City, Fremont, Newark, Castro Valley, Hayward and Oakland. Read the full story here.

Man hops into crop car driver's seat -- for the third time

A man jumped into the driver's seat of a police car and activated its emergency equipment at around 7:30 a.m. The officer had parked his car near 1688 Decoto Road and noticed the man inside the vehicle seconds after he stepped away. The officer ordered the man to get out of the car. The suspect then tried to run but was eventually detained. It was his third time the suspect had attempted to enter a police car. He was arrested on suspicion of tampering with a police vehicle.

SATURDAY, MARCH 30

Driver busted with $5,700 of meth

An officer spotted a car run a stop sign in the area of Almaden Boulevard and Cumana Circle at around 4:41 p.m. The officer stopped the car and learned that the driver was on searchable probation. During the search, the officer located a large amount of methamphetamine -- valued at $5,700. The driver was arrested and transported to jail.

SUNDAY, MARCH 31

Woman crashes after suffering medical emergency

Officers helped rescue a woman who crashed her car near the railroad tracks on Decoto Road by Union Square. Police responded at about 8 p.m. where they found the woman unsresponsive and locked inside. The car was also close enough to the railroad tracks to be in danger of being struck by oncoming trains. Railroad traffic was stopped and officers broke out a car window to provide aid to the woman. She was taken to a local hospital and the car was removed from the tracks.

MONDAY, APRIL 1

Metro PCS store robbed

A man walked into the Metro PCS store on Decoto Road at around 5:50 p.m. and demanded money from the register. The suspect told the clerk that he wouldn't hurt her and was not seen in possession of a weapon. He was described as a black male in his 30s, about 5-foot-7 and weighing about 150 pounds.
