Police Log: Home Intruder, Child Hit by Car

A woman assaulted and robbed in her home, a child hit by a car in front of an elementary school and multiple arrests in this week's crime log.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the . The document contains only items of note. Dated April 14, the log contains incidents that occurred from April 8-13.

Friday, April 8

A man was arrested on suspicion of drug possession after police spotted him driving erratically, according to the log. The man’s car was swerving between lanes on Alvarado-Niles Road near Almaden Boulevard, police said. An officer stopped him and, upon contact, the driver informed the police officer that his driver’s license was suspended. The officer confirmed the information but also found out the man was on parole and searched his vehicle. The officer found 8.2 grams of rock cocaine broken into pieces and wrapped for sale. The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine base for sale.

Saturday, April 9

A woman was assaulted and robbed inside her home on Morales Court. Officers arrived to investigate the incident and were told by the victim that she heard footsteps coming up the steps of her home. Thinking it was a relative, she exited her bedroom to greet the person. Instead, she found herself confronted by an intruder who punched her in the face. The suspect demanded money from the victim. She complied with the demands of the suspect, who fled the home after. Police recovered potential evident at the scene and are following the case.

Sunday, April 10

A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the area of Meteor Drive near Chippendale Drive on Sunday night. He suffered a broken leg and possible head trauma. The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian ran across Meteor Drive in front of an oncoming vehicle that struck him, police said. The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Monday, April 11

Two people were arrested following a residential burglary on Hartnell Street. An officer responded to the scene where a witness provided a description of the suspect vehicle and license plate. The officer tracked down the suspects to their home on Eric Court and arrested a male and female on suspicion of burglary. All of the stolen property was recovered.

Tuesday, April 12

A 6-year-old was struck by a car in front of Searles Elementary School on Tuesday morning. She suffered a leg injury. A parent double-parked her vehicle in the middle of 15th Street in front of the school to drop off her child, and a passing vehicle struck the girl as she darted out in front of the vehicle, police said. The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a minor leg injury. As a precaution, she was checked for any other injuries.

Later on Tuesday morning, members of the Union City Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, along with the Fremont SWAT team, served search warrants at two locations in Union City for suspects involved in a string of armed robberies that occurred last month at various locations in Fremont and Union City.  During the robberies, the armed suspects would enter and take over fast food and convenience stores, order everyone to the ground and rob the store. On at least one occasion, the suspects pistol-whipped the clerk, police said. Because of the nature and severity of the crimes, the SWAT teams were tasked with serving the warrants for the safety of all involved. The search warrants resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the seizure of evidence. Read more about this case here.

Wednesday, April 13

Two suspects were arrested following a robbery and assault that took place at on Wednesday night. The suspects dragged a loss prevention officer through the parking lot with their vehicle before fleeing, police said. Police followed the suspects into Fremont, where they abandoned their vehicle. Officers set up a perimeter and eventually located and arrested the suspects. See the full story here.
