Note: Robbers are clearly aware of the high value of some purses. Our recommendation is to keep them strapped over your shoulder for security.

Woman shot during home invasion robbery

On Monday evening at about 10:17 p.m. the Union City Police communications center received a “911” call from a resident on Hanford Street. The caller stated they had just been robbed and that the caller’s mother had been shot.

Arriving officers secured the scene and provided initial emergency medical assistance to the gunshot victim until Alameda County Fire personnel arrived.

It was determined through interviews that three suspects had confronted the shooting victim outside the residence. After forcing her back inside the residence, the three other adult occupants of the residence were forced at gunpoint into the family room. At some point, a physical altercation occurred between the suspects and one of the residents. It was then that one of the suspects began shooting.

Only one of the residents, a 62-year-old female, was struck by gunfire. The suspects then fled the residence on foot. It is not yet determined if there was a vehicle further used in their escape. It is apparent at this time that the motive of the suspects was theft.

The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital and was in surgery at the time of this writing. Her prognosis is unknown. Also injured was the adult son of the shooting victim. He had been struck in the head by one of the suspects. He was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
