Police Log: Fatal Shooting, Child Endangerment, Domestic Disturbances

A man was shot and killed, marking Union City's third homicide of the year. A father was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment. Police also made a number of arrests for other crimes.

Thursday, June 9

Domestic disturbances

An officer was flagged down by a man at the corner of Alvarado-Niles Road and Almaden Boulevard. The citizen reported a domestic disturbance between him and his wife and requested that the officer speak to his wife at their home. During the course of the officer’s investigation, the officer learned that the husband had battered his wife during their argument, according to the report. He was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery.

Later that night, officers were sent to investigate another in-progress domestic battery at a home on Medallion Drive. The arriving officers found the victim and suspect in the front yard yelling at each other and ordered them to sit down until they could sort out the facts. Officers learned that the couple was engaged in a heated argument that escalated when the husband struck his wife with an open hand to her head, causing an injury, according to the report. The victim was treated at the scene by Alameda County Fire for her injuries. The husband was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery.

Saturday, June 11

Meth arrest

Officers were sent to investigate a suspicious person walking in front of businesses near the 32900 block of Alvarado-Niles Road. Arriving officers met with the person, who was determined to be on parole. The officers conducted a parole search of the subject and recovered 3.6 grams of methamphetamine, according to the report. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

Monday, June 13

Child suffers life-threatening head injury

A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized with a life-threatening head injury after an Alameda County Fire medical unit and Union City police officers responded to a report of an injury around 7:30 p.m. on the 32000 block of Monterey Drive.  According to the report, the child was unresponsive and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police learned the injury was inflicted after the child’s father threw a metal object during an argument and unintentionally struck the child. The father was eventually arrested on suspicion of child endangerment on June 15. Read the full report .

Tuesday, June 14

Fatal shooting at Contempo Homes

A man was shot and killed near his residence at the Contempo Homes around 5 p.m. Tuesday. Officers responded to the 4200 block of Venus Place and found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.  The victim was later identified as 34-year-old Union City resident Keith Douglas Hadnot. Read the full story .
