Police Log: Elderly Man Solicits Another Man for Sex Act at Park; Bicyclist Arrested for Riding Bike While High on Meth

Friday, April 20

Woman arrested for possession of meth

On Friday night, an officer pulled over a car for a vehicle code violation in the area of Whipple Road and Industrial Parkway. The female driver appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. After a field evaluation, the officer determined that the driver wasn’t impaired. However, a subsequent probation search was conducted and the officer located drug paraphernalia and .8 grams of meth in her possession.

Later in the night, an officer on patrol in the area of Second Street near D Street saw a person riding a bike without lighting equipment. The officer stopped the bicyclist, who showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. After an evaluation, the officer arrested the bicyclist on suspicion of being under the influence of methamphetamine.

Saturday, April 21

Elderly man in wheelchair solicits man for sex act at Civic Center Park

Officers investigated a report of an elderly man in a wheelchair soliciting another adult male for an inappropriate sex act at William Cann Civic Center Park, which is located directly across from the police station. The victim placed the elderly man under citizen’s arrest, who was then taken into custody by police.

Birthday boy has too much to drink

Later on Saturday, an officer saw a car driving erratically and weaving between lanes on I-880 at Alvarado-Niles Road. The officer stopped the driver in the area of Whipple Road and Dyer Street. The driver showed signs of being intoxicated but he refused to complete a field sobriety test after telling the officer that he’d been out celebrating his birthday and had too much to drink. The officer eventually arrested him on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Woman has too much tequila

Also on Saturday night, an officer witnessed a vehicle weaving between lanes in the area of Whipple Road and Central Avenue. When the officer stopped the car and approached the driver, she admitted to drinking tequila. She was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol after failing field sobriety tests.

Tuesday, April 24

Parolee arrested after battering girlfriend, doing a hit-and-run, driving while under the influence and carrying a firearm

A frantic woman honked her vehicle’s horn and flagged down an officer on patrol in the area of Whipple Road near Weigman Avenue. The woman was crying and very upset. She told the officer that her boyfriend battered her and wouldn’t let her leave their home without him, but that she managed to escape and drive away. She said the suspect chased after her in his car but crashed on Whipple Road at the railroad tracks near Liston Drive.

Officers responded to the crash scene and found the suspect a short distance away on the railroad tracks attempting to get away. The suspect was apprehended and arrested on suspicion of domestic battery, assault with a deadly weapon, being a parolee in possession of a firearm, hit and run, and driving while under the influence.

Teen shot near James Logan High School

A 15-year-old was wounded in a shooting Tuesday afternoon on 14th Street near H Street, just blocks away from James Logan High School. The victim ran southbound on H Street and collapsed in a driveway of the high school, where arriving officers located him. Alameda County Fire and EMS personnel treated him at the scene and transported him to a local hospital.

The suspect is believed to have fled the area in a white construction-type utility pickup with a black rack on top and blue lettering. He is described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s, approximately 5-foot-2 with a husky build, short brown hair and a light brown beard. According to witnesses, he was wearing a bright yellow construction vest, blue jeans and black work boots.

Man attempts to stab uncle

On Tuesday night, officers investigated an in-progress fight and attempted stabbing at a home on the 35000 block of Hollyhock Street. The suspect had fled prior to the officers’ arrival. The victim told the authorities that his nephew forced his way into the home and attacked him with what he believed to be a pocketknife. The report was sent to the district attorney’s office for review for the charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
