Brothers stab one another in drunken fight

On Saturday night, officers responded to a report of a man asking motorists for help in the area of Mission Boulevard and Whipple Road. At first, officers couldn’t locate the man but found him later lying under a truck parked on Fifth Street near Whipple Road. The man was found with lacerations and stab wounds. Due to the level of the man’s intoxication and his injuries, he was slipping in and out of consciousness, according to the report. He was taken to a local hospital while officers tried to figure out how he became wounded.

Later, officers learned that Hayward police were also at a hospital interviewing a stabbing victim. That victim was the brother of the Union City man found on Fifth Street.

Through their investigations, officers learned that the brothers were drinking beer at a home on Seventh Street in Union City. One of the brothers wanted to go on a beer run but the other brother wouldn’t let him drive while drunk. The two men started fighting. One of the brothers picked up a kitchen knife and started to slash and stab his brother. He eventually dropped the knife, which the other brother picked up and, in turn, stabbed his brother as well.

The case was sent to the District Attorney for review.
