Police Log: Bronco Billy’s, Bharat Bazar, Smith Street Convenience Store Burglarized in Last Week

Reports also include a meth-fueled father trying to burn his daughter with a torch and a number of residential burglaries.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the Union City Police Department. The document contains only items of note that occurred Aug. 17 to 21. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style.

Friday, Aug. 17

Man found with gun, drugs after vehicle violation stop

At about 9:23 p.m., an officer on routine patrol made a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Dyer Street near Meteor Drive for vehicle code violations. During the stop, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a concealed loaded firearm and 31.2 grams of marijuana packaged in three separate baggies. The driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of a concealed loaded firearm and possession of marijuana for sales.

Saturday, Aug. 18

Probationer found with weed packaged for sale

At 4:38 p.m., an officer on routine patrol in the area of Santa Rosa Court saw various subjects he recognized as being on probation. The officer detained the subjects and determined that one of them had 13.6 grams of marijuana in his possession packaged for sales. The subject was arrested and transported to jail.

Sunday, Aug. 19

Drunk driver crashes into parked car, tries to run away

Early Sunday morning about 12:42 a.m., officers responded to the area of Fredi Street near Las Palmas Way to investigate a traffic accident. Arriving officers found that a single car had collided into a parked car. The driver attempted to run away from the scene when he saw the first officers arriving. The officer gave chase and apprehended the subject as he attempted to jump over a fence. The intoxicated subject was arrested on suspicion of hit and run, driving while under the influence of alcohol and resisting arrest.

Burglary at Dry Creek Apartments

Also early Sunday morning, a resident living at the Dry Creek Apartments located at 33300 Mission Blvd. reported that he heard a slight noise coming from the downstairs living area of his apartment at about 2 a.m.. In the morning when the resident woke up, he determined that an unknown suspect(s) entered into his apartment via an unlocked rear sliding patio door and burglarized his residence.

Monday, Aug. 20

Burglars break into Bharat Bazar

The owner of Bharat Bazar, an Indian supermarket located at 34201 Alvarado-Niles Rd., reported that unknown suspect(s) had burglarized his store the night before. The incident was caught on video surveillance at 2:20 a.m. The suspect(s) made entry by removing a glass panel. Investigators are attempting to identify the suspect from the video footage.

10th Street home burglarized

Additionally, officers investigated a residential burglary that occurred to a home on the 33000 block of 10th Street the previous evening. Entry was made through an unlocked window.

Skylark Drive home also burglarized

Later this night, an officer investigated a residential burglary that occurred to a residence on the 34600 block of Skylark Drive. Entry was made by forcibly prying open the front door.

Meth-fueled father tries to burn daughter with welding torch

On Monday night, officers were also sent to a residence on the 4700 block of Andrea Way to investigate a domestic disturbance. Arriving officers met with the victim and she told them that her father was hallucinating from using methamphetamine and tried to burn her skin with an acetylene torch. Officers found the suspect hiding inside the residence and arrested him after a short struggle.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of .6 grams of methamphetamine. The daughter declined to file charges against her father for assault with a deadly weapon.

Tuesday, Aug. 21

Bronco Billy’s, Smith Convenience Market burglarized

On Tuesday morning at about 2 a.m., officers were sent to investigate a burglar alarm sounding at Bronco Billy’s Pizza Palace, located at 3940 Smith St. Officers found that entry was made via a pried side entrance door. The empty cash register was later found in the area of Smith Street near Union City Boulevard.

Additionally, unknown suspect(s) kicked the front glass doors to the Smith Street Convenience Market located at 3834 Smith St. and burglarized it sometime during the night. The loss was candy and cigarettes.
