Police Log: Another Suspect Arrested in 2008 Murder, Armed Robbery on Alvarado

An additional suspect was arrested in connection to the 2008 murder of a Hayward man at Kennedy Park in Union City, and a man was robbed of his wallet, cell phone and car keys on Alvarado Boulevard

Friday, July 8

UCPD assist Hayward police after man attempts to shoot police officer

Union City police officers were asked to assist the Hayward Police Department after one of their officers was shot during an assault with a deadly weapon investigation around 9:30 p.m. at a restaurant near the intersection of Huntwood and Tennyson Road in Hayward.

According to media reports, the suspect, a 32-year-old Hayward resident, fled to an apartment complex on the 25000 block of Cypress Avenue. A responding Hayward police officer saw the suspect enter the apartment parking lot. Before the officer could get out of his vehicle, the suspect fired two rounds at the officer. The suspect was eventually tracked to a nearby home where a stand-off took place as offers tried to negotiate with the suspect. At 3 a.m. Saturday, the suspect attempted to take his own life and shot himself in the head, according to the UCPD report. InsideBayArea.com reported that the man was taken to nearby hospital for treatment.

While Hayward police handled that case, Union City officers responded to a number of calls in Hayward, including a mentally impaired individuals, a rape and other assorted disturbance calls.

Saturday, July 9

Los Altos investigations traces stolen property to Union City

Union City police officers assisted Los Altos police. with a search on Teddy Drive for stolen property.  An ex-felon was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and another resident was arrested for false information to a police officer, according to the report.

Wednesday, July 13

Another suspect arrested in 2008 murder

Officers arrested an additional suspect in connection to the 2008 murder of a Hayward man at Kennedy Park. The suspect was arrested 33000 block of Thirteenth Street around 3:15 p.m., according to court documents. According to the district attorney’s office, the suspect has not yet been charged and may be released due to a lack of evidence.

Three Union City men were previously arrested on suspicion of murder on July 1. .

Traffic diverted after gas leak at construction site

Officers assisted the Alameda County Fire Department and PG&E after a gas leak occurred at a construction site in the area of Eleventh Street and Cheeves Way. A contractor operating a backhoe cut a two-inch gas line, according to the report. Officers diverted traffic for approximately three hours while PG&E capped the leak, the report said.

Man robbed on Alvarado Boulevard

Later in the night, officers responded to an armed robbery on Alvarado Boulevard near Fair Ranch Road. According to the report, three suspects approached a male victim with one of the suspects pointing a handgun at the victim. While the suspect pointed the gun at him, the others took the victim’s wallet, cell phone and car keys. The suspects fled in an unknown direction, according to the report.
