Friday, Oct. 28

Man shoots BB gun inside Walmart, resists arrest

Officers responded to in Union Landing to investigate a report of a man firing a BB gun inside of the store. According to the report, the man also had stolen items in his backpack and a was holding a pocketknife. The store’s loss prevention officers kept the suspect under surveillance and directed officers to his location in the sporting goods section, the report said. When officers found the suspect, he had already discarded the BB gun but was still holding the pocketknife, the report said. According to the report, officers ordered the suspect to drop the knife and kneel on the ground at gunpoint, but he refused. Officers eventually distracted the suspect and knocked the knife out of his hands, forced him to the ground and arrested him.

Two arrested with handgun after acting suspicious, failing to cooperate with officer

An officer spotted two individuals staring into parked cars in the area of Gemini Drive as if they were casing the vehicles to be burglarized. The officer also noticed that one of the subjects kept adjusting and checking his left waistline of his pants, as if he was repositioning a handgun. As they were walking toward the intersection of Alvarado Boulevard and Dyer Street, the officer attempted to make contact but they were uncooperative, the report said. One of the individuals, who the officer believed might have had a firearm, began to back away, the report said. The officer grabbed him but he began to resist. The second suspect tried to interfere with the officer and, at one point, tried to pull the first suspect away from the officer. The officer eventually called for assistance and the two were detained. A pistol was recovered near the first suspect and both were arrested and transported to jail.

Drunk driver arrested after running stop sign

Also on Saturday, an officer on routine patrol spotted a man run a stop sign on the intersection of Royal Anne Drive and Rainier Court. The officer stopped the driver. According to the report, the driver reeked of alcohol, so the satisfactorily perform the tests officer made him perform several field sobriety tests. The driver failed the tests and was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Homeowners assaulted during house party

Later on Saturday night, officers were sent to a home on Holt Drive regarding a loud party disturbance call. The homeowner promised to keep his party guests inside and lower the noise, but a a couple of hours later, officers were sent back to the home to investigate a fight in front of the house. Officers found the homeowner and his son battered and bruised, the report said.  Through their investigation, officers learned that a group of people crashed the party and were causing a disturbance, so the homeowner asked the subjects to leave. As the homeowner walked them out of his house, they attacked him, knocking him to the ground. His son came to his aid and was also attacked, the report said. The subjects then fled the area prior to police arrival.

Sunday, Oct. 30

Driver falls asleep at wheel, knocks over fire hydrant

Officers responded to a non-injury traffic accident on Regents Boulevard near Alice Drive. According to the report, the driver fell asleep and veered to the side of the roadway, striking a parked car. The parked car knocked over a fire hydrant, causing a geyser of water to shoot into the air for 30 minutes and flooding the roadway. The roadway was closed for an extended time while the water was shut off and the area cleaned.

Tuesday, Nov. 1

Man arrested for attempted rape

A person reported a domestic disturbance at her friend’s home at the Green Haven apartments located on Alvarado Boulevard. Responding officers found the victim visibly upset and learned that when her estranged boyfriend came to the apartment to pick up their 3-year-old child, he demanded the victim have sex with him. When she declined, the suspect forcibly carried the victim into her bedroom where he continually told her he wished to have sex with her, the report said. The victim managed to call a friend but before she could tell her what was occurring, the suspect tore the phone away from her and disabled it. The victim fought her way away from the suspect and fled. Officers located the suspect at his home on Teddy Drive and arrested him on suspicion of attempted rape, domestic battery, kidnapping, and false imprisonment.

Wednesday, Nov. 2

500 marijuana plants, meth and drug paraphernalia seized in search of two homes

Officers from the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving unit conducted searches of two problematic residences. A parole search was conducted at the first home on Panama Circle in the Tropics Mobile Home Park. Officers arrested the parolee and his girlfriend on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the report. In the second search, officers followed up on information about a home on Cambridge Way and served a search warrant recovering approximately 500 mature marijuana plants from a residence converted into a grow house. No suspects were at the residence and follow up is continuing.

Thursday, Nov. 3

Teen robbed of cell phone on Meyers Drive

A James Logan High School student was robbed of his cell phone while walking on Meyers Drive.  The student was approached by a suspect who punched him in the stomach, took the phone and fled toward Kennedy Park, the report said.
