According to a press release issued Thursday evening, investigators believe that two groups of individuals exchanged fire following an argument and that up to 20 or 30 people may have been involved.

The initial argument appeared to involve a man and a woman who were dating, police said.

Responding officers located a vehicle matching the description of one involved in the shooting and have arrested all of the passengers, Lt. Kelly Musgrove of the UCPD said.

Though there were no victims at the scene when officers arrived, a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg was admitted to a local hospital around the same time.

The man, an 18-year-old Union City resident, was later identified as a victim of the shooting. His wound was not life-threatening, Musgrove said.

Based on the large number of those involved, police are not sure how many suspects or victims there may be, Musgrove said.

The shooting did not appear to be gang-related or connected to other recent shootings in the area, he said.

At 6 p.m., police still had part of the area blocked off with a handful of investigators on scene.

Residents in the area said they heard about 10 gunshots. At least 11 evidence markers, which may indicate bullet shell casings, were scattered almost the entire length of the block. A black car with a dented fender also had an evidence marker placed atop it.

Some witnesses said a fight had occurred at a Fourth Street home shortly before the shots rang out.

"All the things that have been happening here — it's too much, too close to home," a nearby resident said.
