Pittsburg Man Arrested, Suspected of Burglarizing Car at Union Landing Shopping Center

Police say Pittsburg resident Marquece Beck-Natson, 22, was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a car at the Union Landing Shopping center on Jan. 26.

On 01/26/14, Union City police detectives conducted special enforcement at the Union Landing Shopping center. At 6:45 P.M., investigators saw three suspects burglarizing a vehicle and removing the victim’s property. The suspect vehicle quickly fled from the area and drove onto the surface streets. Union City police officers followed the vehicle to Palm Drive, where the suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot. The suspects were not immediately located and their vehicle was impounded by police. The vehicle contained the victim’s property which was returned to the owner. 

Detective J. Cordero conducted further follow up and identified Marquece Beck-Natson, 22 years, Pittsburg, CA, as one of the suspects in this investigation. Detectives arrested Beck on 01/29/14 when he responded to UCPD to report his vehicle as stolen. Detectives are in the process of identifying the other two suspects. 

Members of the public should be aware that burglars often focus on vehicles that provide an easy target. In this case the burglars took a matter of seconds to smash the window, take the property and drive away. The property had been in plain view in the vehicle.

When possible you should to store any valuables out of sight, in the trunk or take smaller items such as lap top bags with you. This type of theft is a crime of opportunity and has been occurring throughout the entire bay area. These safety tips should be considered whenever leaving your vehicle parked anywhere.
