Pedestrian Killed in Fremont Accident Identified

The elderly victim was identified as Simar Caur, a 73-year-old Fremont resident

A pedestrian who died Monday evening in Fremont after being struck by an SUV in the city's Irvington District has been identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as 73-year-old Fremont resident Simar Caur.

Fremont police and firefighters were notified that Caur had been struck at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Olive Avenue at 5:28 p.m. Monday, police said.

Caur, who was , suffered major injuries and was transported to Washington Hospital, where she died, Fremont police said.

The driver of the SUV, a 22-year-old Fremont man, saw Caur enter the street but was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting her, police said.

The sun had set and Caur was wearing dark clothing, possibly making it difficult for the driver to see her, police said.

No charges are being pursued against the driver at this time, police said.
