Parent Arrested After Assaulting Teenager at Middle School

A parent was arrested on felony battery charges Thursday after assaulting a teenager at .
Oshana Collins, 32, of Fremont, was dropping her son off at the school around 8:15 a.m. when her son recognized another boy with whom he was involved in a large fight the previous day.
According to Lt. Kelly Musgrove, Collins got out of her vehicle, confronted the 14-year-old and punched him in the mouth.

Collins was arrested at the school by responding officers on two felony counts for inflicting injury on a child and for battery with serious bodily injury, Musgrove said.
According to Musgrove, the incident stemmed from a brawl that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

“It was a complete mess,” Musgrove said.
As many as 15 to 20 teenagers were involved in an after school fight on Wednesday in front of , located down the street from Alvarado Middle School. A number of those involved were detained and suspended from school, including one who was arrested after breaking a window at the liquor store, according to a police report.
Both Collins’ son and the victim were involved in the altercation.
Had Collins acted responsibly, she wouldn’t face criminal charges, Musgrove said.
“As a parent, you have to be the adult,” Musgrove said. “You call the cops or the school district – you don’t take the matter into your own hands.”
