At least one driver suffered major injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate Highway 880 in Hayward this afternoon, a California Highway Patrol sergeant said.

The CHP received an initial report at 3:05 p.m. indicating that five vehicles might have been involved in the crash, which happened on southbound I-880 just south of Whipple Road, CHP Sgt. John Carman.
