Man Shot During Street Robbery

The shooting occurred on Mission Boulevard late Tuesday night.

A 22-year-old Hayward man was shot in the arm during a street robbery in the Decoto neighborhood late Tuesday night.

According to Cmdr. Ben Horner, the Union City Police Department received a call from a local hospital that a gunshot victim had been dropped off shortly before 11:30 p.m.

Investigators followed up and learned that the victim was walking along Mission Boulevard near Whipple Road in Union City when he was confronted by two men, one of who had a handgun.

The suspects demanded money from the victim and got into a physical struggle with the victim. One shot was fired and the man was shot in the arm, Horner said.

The two suspects fled on foot westbound on Whipple Road. One of the suspects was described as being 6-feet tall with an average build and wearing a dark hoodie.

The victim managed to walk to his home in Hayward and was taken to the hospital by a family member where he was treated for the injury.
