Man Killed in Standoff with Union City Police

The suspect reportedly made a motion toward officers, causing them to open fire.

An armed gunman was shot and killed by police in Union City Saturday afternoon, according to media reports and several witnesses. 

KTVU reports that the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. after officers responded to calls about a man firing shots at a home on Kenita Way near Medallion Drive.

Arriving officers found the man armed with a shotgun and standing in the front lawn of a residence.

The man reportedly refused to obey officers’ commands to put down his weapon and made a motion that caused officers to open fire.

One witness said the armed suspect told officers to shoot him before making a motion with his gun.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, KTVU reports.
