Man Killed in Solo Vehicle Crash Sunday Evening

By Bay City News Service

Hayward police officers are investigating a crash that killed a man on Sunday evening, a police sergeant said. Union City police initially responded to the crash in the 30000 block of Industrial Parkway Southwest around 7:30 p.m., Sgt. Mark Ducker said.

Officers found a car off the roadway and a man dead in the driver's seat, Ducker said. There were no other passengers in the vehicle, according to Ducker. Union City police officers determined that the collision fell in the jurisdiction of Hayward police, he said.

A preliminary investigation showed that the man was driving erratically south on Industrial Parkway Southwest where he was changing lanes and possibly speeding, Ducker said. The driver may have lost control, struck a light pole and came to rest down a short embankment, he said.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, Ducker said. The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Hayward police at (510) 293-7000.
