Update: 47-Year-Old Killed in Shooting Death on Cherry Blossom Way

The wound may have been self-inflicted, police said.

A 47-year-old Union City man was fatally shot Wednesday morning in the backyard of a home near a busy intersection, according to authorities.

Officers responded to the 2700 block of Cherry Blossom Way, near the corner of Royal Ann Drive and Decoto Road, where a resident reported finding a man in her backyard suffering from an apparent gunshot wound at about 8:20 a.m., Union City police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Cmdr. Gloria Lopez-Vaughn told Patch.

The wound may have been self-inflicted, she added.

The cause of death is still under investigation, the Alameda County Coroner's Office said Wednesday evening.
