Man Dies After Being Found Unconscious in Trash Can

The man was identified as 21-year-old Joshua Gonzalez-Perez of Union City.

Updated 11:39 a.m.

A Union City man died Sunday morning after he was found unconscious in a trashcan on the 33900 block of 10th Street, police said.

According to the Union City Police Department, Joshua Gonzalez-Perez, 21, of Union City, was found at about 6:30 a.m. when a resident of the home went to take out the trash. When she opened the trashcan, she found Perez inside.

There were no visible injuries, said Sgt. Victor Derting.

Police and medical units responded to the scene and transported Gonzalez-Perez to a local hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

According to a KTVU report, Gonzalez-Perez was a family friend to those at the address and occasionally lived there.

The trash can that Gonzalez-Perez was found in did not belong to the home.

Police are treating the suspicious death as a serious crime, Cmdr. Ben Horner told KTVU Monday morning.

A memorial for Gonzalez-Perez has been put in place at the home where he was found, readers said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Union City Police Department at 510-471-1365. Anonymous tips can also be left at 510-675- 5207 or tips@unioncity.org.

Police are treating the suspicious death as a serious crime, Cmdr. Ben Horner told KTVU Monday morning. Really Sherlock? You mean it's not a simple misdemeanor?
James Nelson November 13, 2012 at 01:53 AM
Newark Citizens are found in Garbage Cans all the time, I guess in their minds it's better than risking a Public Intoxication by stumbling home.
John November 13, 2012 at 04:48 AM
Really James? Trying out for a standup comedian gig? Don't quit your day job!
James Nelson November 13, 2012 at 06:09 AM
John, Guess you haven't explored Newark in the wee hours of the Morning. Hotspots for Drunks in Garbage Cans are the Lido Shopping Center, behind the Mi Pueblo and behind Little Caesars to name a few. No Laughing here, just some Facts. Not to be confused with the Treasure Hunters! They Typically don't Jump into the cans themselves.
John November 13, 2012 at 06:25 AM
maybe some illegal aliens inebriated from their malt liquor... but I doubt many "Newark CITIZENS" are being found in trash cans.

James Nelson- have some respect.Your comments are not welcomed.
James Nelson November 20, 2012 at 11:08 PM
Diamond, I'm sorry, I didn't realize this was a Church and that I needed to behave myself accordingly. Last time I checked it was a News Article and I was tossing in some Facts. If this overly bothers you, then perhaps you should seek Help from a Qualified Shrink to "Talk it out". If my Intent were to be Disrespectful, Trust me I could have typed far worse things. Also be sure to Note that I have not Commented on the other Article where his Family Members have turned it into a Virtual Memorial. Do you see the difference yet between the two Pages? One is Reporting the NEWS, while the other is seeking Tears of Sadness.
Diamond April 19, 2013 at 01:09 AM
James- No it's not church.Sorry i assumed you were an adult and thought you might comment with the brains of one. My mistake.
