Juveniles Burglarize and Vandalize 32 Cars at Avalon Apartments

Two 14-year-olds and a 16-year-old were arrested in connection to the crimes.

Three juveniles were arrested Friday morning after a burglary and vandalism spree of 32 cars — including a Corvette and Ferrari — at the Avalon Union City apartments.

According to the Union City Police Department, authorities received a report at about 6 a.m. of suspects breaking the windows of cars in the Avalon apartments parking garage, located at 24 Union Square Dr.

Arriving officers found 32 cars in the multi-story parking garage that were vandalized, burglarized or both, police said.

Shorty after, officers located and arrested three juvenile suspects. The three suspects, two 14-year-olds and a 16-year-old, were arrests on suspicion of conspiracy, burglary, vandalism, auto theft and possession of stolen property.

The suspects targeted cars that had items left in plain view, police said. They also intentionally vandalized expensive cars, such as a Corvette and a Ferrari.

UCPD reminds community members to remove expensive items from your vehicles or store them out of sight.

These poor children should be confined to their parents care and instruction. The parents should be charged with raising a dangerous weapon and be fully responsible for their children's acts. You break it you buy it. Take the costs of the investigation, repairs and court costs and divide it by three on for each child with the parents stuck with the bill.

Pretty expensive repair bills for their parents to make. These young hoodlums obviously still need a baby sitter to watch over them since they still haven't learned the difference between right and wrong. A few weeks of hard labor like hacking down weeds and bagging them might teach them to channel their energies in other directions. Not volunteer work of their choice.

At least they got caught. Vandalizing cars is a stepping stone. Shame on them...shame on their parents.

Hopefully these are the same guys that keep on running on the rooftops at 3am. Management has been made aware of this problem for quite a while and nothing was done about it. We pay a hefty price to live in these "luxury" apartments to be living in this unsafe environment.

This has been frustrating for many! I didn't have anything in plain sight except a coat blanket and a grocery bag with a return in it! They pulled everything out of every book n cranny! These kids need a serious time out and he apartment complex needs to heighten their so called secured garage. This is supposed to be a calm place to live but has been the least peaceful place I have lived! The kids needs to pay to $500 for my car window! I plan on pursuing this!!!

I hope you get your justice from these vandals!

Managers are a farce, they do nothing and get free rent and a salary to sit on their asses..

My driver door window was smashed in, glass everywhere, but luckily nothing but a few dollars for toll were stolen. I didn't have anything in plain site, nor was my car a luxury car, so it couldv'e really happened to anyone. It was the mess and damage that was a hassle. It's really sad that so many people were affected, and in such a nice community. I hope if your car was vandalized and or broken into at Avalon that we can have this settled soon, and live in peace. If it helps, I took my car to Alpha Auto Glass in Union City to get it fixed, and not only did they repair it in 30 minutes, they cleaned up all the glass. AAA covered after the deductible but total repair was $184. I'm so thankful for Alpha Auto and that this situation isn't as bad as it could've been, speaking for my self at least. Besides a few glass cuts, no one was hurt. To the children involved, this is not the way to spend your summer vacation, and don't expect having one in the future maybe behind bars if you keep living your life like this. I believe in karma and you will pay the consequence.

and which you should! I feel the same the security here is a joke. Come to find out there is section 8 here. I was a child of section 8 but never lived in such a place. Why am I paying full price when others get a cheap escape.

Just moved out of Avalon a month ago.So expensive and there are a lot of problems. Don't miss it!

Mona, a couple of hard weeks labor is not the solution. Let their parents decide the course of action while their folks make good on the damages their children caused. In full if you please.

My car was vandalized 3 times in the 11 months I lived there. Drunk ass losers always in the elevators too. Management at Avalon was and still is a joke. Overpriced ghetto ass apartment complex with a dirty pool. I wonder if these 3 chumps can be linked to my auto repair bills? I haven't lived there in over 2 years and they still haven't fixed the so called security, Avalon should be held liable for not fixing the gates and doors to close every time or adding proper cameras to garages. Hopefully someone can put together a lawsuit against Avalon, they suck! Ok, I'm done venting!

Get together with your neighbors that this has affected and file a law suit against them. They should have to pay restitution for property damage & theft. I’d also like to see them have to reimburse the insurance companies as well. This is a perfect example to why our insurance rates go up. Avalon should press trespassing charges against them as well. And since these kids are under age, by all means make their parents or guardian accountable for their actions. • Out of pocket cost to owner for property damage. • Lost wages to owner for repairs. • Items that were stolen. • Reimburse Insurance Companies. • Reimburse Union City Police Dept. • Lawyer fees and court cost. Until people start standing up for themselves, this will never change. The reality of this will probably just be a slap on the hand and don’t do it again. After all, there just little kids who didn’t know better right.

I have been in the States for 10 years & never had anything stolen from me across 8 states i have been until now!!! Its really frustrating & i did lose items worth $1500 in all !! The avalon union city apartment's security is a big joke, the prople working here are miserable with no courtesy what so ever, stupid ___, and for those kids i have no mercy & wish they get what they deserve for disturbing so many lives!!
Jim July 15, 2012 at 04:30 PM
I had the same ideas. I wonder if the parents can be held for murder when they get the bill for all the damages. The teenagers are destined for a major prison. They need more than a few weeks of hard labor.

AVALON IS STARTING TO BECOME GHETTO..COPS/FIRE FIGHTERS/ AMBULANCE THERE TOO MUCH! IT ISN'T SECTION 8, BUT THEY DO HAVE A LOW INCOME PROGRAM. THEY ARE REALLY OVER PRICED! YOU CAN GO RENT A 3 BEDROOM HOME WITH THE COST OF A 1 BEDROOM RATE AT AVALON. THE PEOPLE IN THE OFFICE ARE REAL NICE, BUT NEVER DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEMS THAT GO ON IN THE COMMUNITY...THEY DO NEED BETTER SECURITY PATROLING THE COMMUNITY AND NOT SECURITY THAT IS JUST GONNA TOW YOUR CAR FOR PARKING IN THE FUTURE RESIDENT/GUEST PARKING WITHOUT A RED PARKING PASS AFTER HOURS! RIDICULOUS! NO CAMERAS WHATSO EVER IN THE "SECURED" PARKING GARAGE! I CAN GO ON ABOUT THIS PLACE! CAN'T WAIT TO MOVE OUT!
