Police Getting Closer to Finding Suspects in Case of Woman Slain and Set on Fire

The body of Monica Rodas, 21, was found in Oakland's Rockridge district early Thursday morning. The case is being investigated as a homicide.

Oakland police say they are getting closer to finding suspects in n fire last Thursday in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood.

Over the weekend, investigators interviewed several people connected to Monica Rodas, who police believe was killed before her body was dumped and set on fire, said Officer Holly Joshi of the Oakland Police Department.

Though details were not released, Joshi said the department is confident of the information that investigators have acquired.

“We’re confident that we’re getting closer to the case,” Joshi said.

Rodas’ body was found at about 4:40 a.m. at Ivanhoe and Chabot roads in a quiet residential neighborhood. Police say Rodas suffered trauma before she was burned.

According to Joshi, Rodas’ last known address was in Union City, though most of her life was spent in Oakland.

According to an ABC 7 report, Rodas was raised in Oakland and was a 2007 graduate of the Emiliano Zapata Street Academy.

She was the mother of a 2-year-old boy, who lives with his paternal grandmother in Union City.

On Sunday, friends and community members held a car wash fundraiser at the Eastlake YMCA parking lot to raise money for Rodas’ funeral services.
