UPDATE: Shooting in Cherryland Leaves Hayward Man Dead

A 20-year-old Hayward man was killed in a drive-by shooting in an unincorporated area of Alameda County Monday night according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

By Bay City News

Authorities are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man in unincorporated Hayward on Monday night, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Deputies responded to the 400 block of Bartlett Avenue, near Interstate Highway 880, at about 9:30 p.m. after receiving a report that a man had been shot, Alameda County sheriff's spokesman J.D. Nelson said.

They found the victim, whose name has not yet been released, outside in that block, Nelson said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the shooter and victim knew each other, Nelson said.

There were initial reports that the incident was a drive-by shooting, but investigators now believe that was not the case, Nelson said.

He said there was a group of people hanging out together on that block just before the shooting occurred.

No arrests have been made in the case, and investigators are working to determine the motive, Nelson said.

Patch will update this story as more information is made available.

Reading about gun violence these days is like checking the weather forecast. We all know there will be weather, like we all know there will be gun violence .In NRA's America it is all about who shoots first.

Yes VERNON, we sure don't want anyone to actually take ANY personal responsibility, now do we... ?.. Why is it always the NRA fault, I don't remember them making any laws..If I remember right that job belongs to the law makers and NOT the NRA... I'm sure that with all the gang violence in Oakland that most of them are members of the NRA, RIGHT?....

Wasn't someone just stabbed off Stoakes? When will you support the banning of knives?

Remember the Alameda County Sheriff made $525k in comp last year. If he made a "normal" amount, heck if he made as little as the NYC Chief of Police, we could afford another 2 "regular" cops.
