Elderly Pedestrian Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Hit-and-Run

The driver also sustained minor injuries.

An elderly pedestrian is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run Friday morning, police said. 

According to Cmdr. Ben Horner, officers responded to a report of a possible hit-and-run at about 10:11 a.m. at the intersection of Alvarado-Niles Road and Central Avenue.

The victim, identified as 74-year-old Rogelio Razon of Union City, was transported to a local trauma center. He was clinging to his life Friday afternoon, Horner said.

According to Horner, after striking the victim, the female driver continued eastbound and hit a parked car in the area of Alvarado-Niles Road and Heritage Way. Officers detained the driver at the scene of the vehicle collision.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local emergency room for treatment.

“The driver is cooperating with police,” Horner told Patch. “We’re trying to determine whether she tried to flee the scene deliberately or whether she was shaken up or panicked.”
