Police Log: Domestic Battery, Fights and a Strange Liquid Used in Robbery

Union City police log, March 11 - March 17

The following is a collection of incident reports prepared by the . The document contains only items of note. Dated March 17, the report contains incidents that occurred from March 11 – 15.

Friday, March 11

Union City police officers assisted Major Crimes Taskforce agents in serving a search warrant at residence on Peco Street. The home was unoccupied at the time and served as a marijuana growing operation. Officers later found the suspect driving in the area and stopped him. He resisted arrest when he was told why he was stopped and had to be subdued during the arrest.

Later that night, officers arrested a man involved in a violent domestic disturbance at the Medallion Green Apartments on 2500 Medallion Drive. Officers were told that a man was dragging a woman by her hair through the parking lot. Officers responded to the location where they detained the suspect and learned that the couple were arguing in a car while driving home from a family gathering. While in the car, the suspect punched the victim in her head. When they arrived at the apartment complex, the suspect started to tear her clothing and drag her out of the car. A witness helped her and took her to his apartment where they called the police. The suspect left the scene but returned when police arrived. The victim was treated by paramedics and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect was arrested for domestic battery and transported to Santa Rita Jail.

Also on Friday night, police responded to the Crowne Plaza Hotel where a large fight involving more than 20 people was reported. There were more than 60 partygoers from a wedding reception milling about but it appeared that guests from the wedding who may have been involved in a fight fled before police arrived. One of the partygoers was too drunk to take care of himself and was arrested for public intoxication.

Police also received a call about a child not breathing at home on Royal Anne Drive. By the time officers arrived, the infant started breathing again and officers determined the the infant was suffering flu-like symptoms. The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A busy night for police, officers later responded to a large fight involving more than 15 people in the area of New Haven Drive. People scattered as officers arrived, several of whom were found nearby. One was found with a switch blade and another was found with more than 50 ecstasy pills for sale and was arrested.

Saturday, March 12

Officers responded to a local hospital to meet a victim who reported a robbery that occurred on Wednesday, March 9. The victim said he was walking home on Cherrywood Drive when he was confronted by three suspects who demanded his wallet. One suspect punched the victim in his face and another threw an unknown, caustic liquid onto his face and body. The suspects ran from the area and the victim’s skin began to burn. He went home and washed the substance off but it continued to cause pain. He finally sought treatment when the pain became unbearable.

Later on Saturday, officers patrolling the alley behind the Quick Stop Market on Alvarado Boulevard noticed a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle, occupied by three people, was parked and blocking the alley. The officers made contact with the vehicle’s passengers and found that one of them was on searchable probation. Police found 1.2 grams of methamphetamine. All three admitted to possessing the drug to ingest it. The were all arrested and transported to jail.

Sunday, March 13

Wingstop was robbed by four armed suspects late in the evening. The suspects forced a victim back into the store at gunpoint and forced everyone to lie on the ground. They suspects stole money out of the register and the safe and fled in an unknown direction. (See a more detailed report .)

Tuesday, March 15

Police received a number of calls about three young males who were ringing doorbells and jumping fences into backyards of homes near Ashwood Court. Police set up a large perimeter and found the suspects near the tennis courts at Veterans Park. Officers learned that the suspects burglarized three homes in the area and were arrested.
