Update: Burglary Suspect Who Evaded Police in Decoto Area Arrested

A man who managed to elude police Tuesday was arrested in San Lorenzo in the late afternoon.

A man who eluded police in the Decoto neighborhood Tuesday afternoon was later arrested in San Lorenzo by Alameda County Sheriff's deputies, according to police.

The suspect, a parolee whose name has not yet been released, faces a number of charges, said Union City Police Lt. Ben Horner.

He managed to evade police earlier in the day when officers responded to the area of Eighth and C streets around noon to investigate a report of a suspicious person, Horner said.

The man was attempting to burglarize the home of an elderly resident, Horner said.

Officers set up a perimeter around the area and conducted a house-to-house search of the block with the assistance of a police K-9 dog. Police units remained in the area until 2 p.m. when they called off the search. There was no threat to public safety when the neighborhood search ended, Horner said.

"He may have slipped out just prior to getting our perimeter set up," Horner said.

The suspect was later tracked down with the assistance of Alameda County Sheriff's deputies to a home in San Lorenzo, where he was arrested, according to UCPD Sgt. Javier Diaz.
