Body Found Sunday Identified as Missing Elderly Hayward Man

Kato Toshio, 85, an Alzheimer's patient, went missing March 5.

The body of a man found near Hayward Sunday night has been identified as missing 85-year-old Alzheimer's patient , according to the Alameda County coroner's office.

Toshio, a Hayward resident with relatives in Union City, was last seen March 5 after walking away from the Arcadian Residential Community care facility in Hayward. Toshio had walked away from the facility one other time, but was quickly found, Hayward police said.

A hiker found Toshio's body near the water along the Hayward Regional Shoreline Sunday at 7:14 p.m., according to Inside Bay Area.

Lt. Jon King of the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department told reporters at the time that the body was found that there were no signs of foul play. The case, however, is still under investigation, the coroner's office said.
