Update: Man Found Dead in Alameda Creek From Possible Suicide

The man's name has not been released pending family notification

An 86-year-old man was found dead in Alameda Creek near the area of Paseo Padre Parkway and Sequoia Terrace in what authorities say was a suicide.

The man's identification has not yet been released pending notification of his family but the man lived in Fremont and was suffering from a terminal illness, said Alameda County Sheriff Sgt. Ray Kelly.

A suicide note was found inside one of his pockets, Kelly added.

Authorities said a passerby found the man's body around 8 a.m. in the water near a bridge this morning behind the Creekside Village Apartments in Fremont.

The bridge is approximately 30 feet up from the water where the man was found dead, according to officials with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

Patch will update this report as more information becomes available.

You will truly be missed. Thank you for all the wonderful memories and great times we've shared. Words can not express the sadness I feel but I know you're in a better place. The kindness and generosity you shared will live on in our family and all whom you've touched. Praying for all your family and friends.

This lovely man was my Dad. There will never be another man like him. I have never felt such sorrow and grief and will miss him everyday. Thank you for your prayers and know that if his pain was not as debilitating as it was he would still be here. A beautiful man, a true friend, a one of a kind grandfather, and a loving Dad. Miss you Daddy...

sandie palomba I am so sorry for your loss, natalie. I know it is painful! But his loving kind nature will live on through you. We should not dwell on the end of his life or we will miss all the wonderfulness that he was to this world! I live with physical pain and sometimes it causes quick moments of strong wishing it gone. It's a normal reaction. Let his bright spirit keep shining forever through all who love him! My prayers & blessings are for you!
