Avoid San Mateo Bridge; Accidents Snarl Commute

Fuel spill contributing to the clogged up bridge.

Several lanes of the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge could be closed in both directions for two or three hours this morning as emergency crews work to clean up several traffic collisions, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The first collision between a big-rig and a pickup truck was reported at 6 a.m. in a westbound lane. The big-rig truck was leaking fuel into the Bay, and the U.S. Coast Guard was called to respond to the spill, CHP officials said.

During the response, another collision between a minivan, a police vehicle and a fire truck was reported at 6:45 a.m. An ambulance was called to the scene for that collision.
