Armed Robbery, Burglary and Collisions Among Incidents Reported to Police

Union City Police Log, Dec. 16–22.

The following is a selection of incidents reported in a weekly crime log prepared by the Union City Police Department. The document contains only items of note. Dated Dec. 22, the report contains incidents that occurred Dec. 16-19.

Thursday, Dec. 16

A couple was seen arguing in front of the Union City Library. The male slapped his girlfriend twice in the face, which caused minor swelling. The couple left by the time officers arrived, but officers were able to locate them both at their residence. The man was arrested for domestic battery and taken to jail.

Friday, Dec. 17

Neighbors on Ellen Way saw a man ringing the doorbell of a residence. He was unknown to the neighborhood. The neighbors saw the man jump over the fence and into the backyard, upon which they notified police. Officers arrived just in time to contact the suspect as he was leaving the neighborhood on foot. The suspect refused to stop or identify himself. Officers searched him and found two iPods that were stolen from another home in the vicinity. He was arrested and taken to jail.

In the evening, UCPD's Traffic Unit conducted a grant-funded operation that focused on identifying and arresting drivers under the influence of alcohol. A squad of four officers conducted numerous traffic stops in Union City and made a number of arrests for driving without a license and driving on a suspended license and made one arrest for DUI.

An armed robbery occurred at Union Landing, resulting in the loss of a cell phone and iPod. A woman was standing at a bus stop when two males approached her. One of the suspects had a black, semi-automatic handgun and demanded the victim's property.  After taking the victim's belongings, the suspects fled on foot.

Saturday, Dec. 18

A domestic violence incident occurred at the Greenhaven Apartment Complex, which resulted in injury to the victim. During an argument, the female victim was struck in the head several times with a fire extinguisher, causing significant swelling to her face.  The victim was to the hospital for treatment and the suspect, her boyfriend, was transported to jail for felony domestic violence.

Sunday, Dec. 19

Due to excessive rainfall, Public Works was called out several times to help monitor flooding in various places around town.  The rain resulted in several non-injury collisions.
