Alvarado Middle and Alvarado Elementary Briefly Locked Down

School was already out of session and no threats were found, according to district officials.

Two Union City schools were briefly locked down as authorities investigated a possible juvenile with a weapon in the Old Alvarado area, district officials said.

According to New Haven district safety coordinator John Mattos, the lockdowns were prompted at around 3:15 p.m. after police received a report of a juvenile who may have had a weapon riding a bicycle near Alvarado Middle School.

School was already out of session for about half an hour, Mattos said.

As a precaution, school officials at the nearby Alvarado Elementary also sheltered in place. The elementary school had been out of session for about an hour and few students were on campus, Mattos said.

Police responded to the schools and cleared the area within 15 minutes.
