A Chase in Decoto, Robbery and Drunk Driving

The following is a collection of incidents reports prepared by the Union City Police Department. The document contains only items of note. Dated Feb. 3, the report contains incidents that occurred Jan. 28-Feb. 2.

Friday, Jan. 28

That stinks! A driver crashed into a traffic light box in the area of Union City Boulevard and Delores Drive after swerving his car and spinning out of control to avoid a skunk in the road.

Saturday, Jan. 29

Speeding + drunk driving = a bad idea. On Saturday night, a person speeding near Gemini Drive and Pleaides Place crashed into two parked cars. The driver’s vehicle flipped and landed on its roof. The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Monday, Jan. 31

A motorcycle escort for a funeral service lost control in the area of Decoto Road and Mission Boulevard while making a right-hand turn. The motorcyclist fell off the bike. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Tuesday, Feb. 1

A chase occurred in the Decoto neighborhood when officers attempted to make an enforcement stop for a probation search. Members of the Community Policing and Problem Solving Unit recognized the probationer but when they tried to stop the car, the driver sped off. Officers gave chase briefly before but stopped because the driver was driving recklessly through the residential neighborhood.

Officers found the vehicle abandoned on Decoto Road and Seventh Street, where it had crashed into another vehicle and then into a fence. More officers arrived at the scene and set up a perimeter in the area. The suspect and a passenger were caught while jumping fences through the neighborhood. They were arrested on multiple charges that included suspicion of evading a police officer, hit and run, reckless driving and resisting arrest.

Wednesday, Feb. 2

An elderly man was robbed at gunpoint by two men in the area of Aurora Plaza. The suspects stole the man’s cell phone; shots were fired but no one was struck by bullets. Officers reported to the scene and were able to track down two men acting suspiciously. During a search, officers found a loaded .32-caliber handgun inside one man's backpackn. The victim positively identified the two suspects as the men who robbed him, police said.
