18-Month-Old Girl Found Dead in Home

Police are investigating the death of a toddler found unresponsive in her home on Central Avenue.

Authorities Tuesday afternoon were investigating the death of an 18-month old girl, said Livermore police Sgt. Kevin Santin.

At 8:04 a.m., emergency crews were called to the 800 block of Central Avenue, off Northfront Road, to a report of an unresponsive baby. The girl was found dead in her crib by her primary caregiver, Santin said.

"We are treating it as we would any suspicious death or homicide," he said. "But it's too early in the investigation and (the death) has not been classified yet."

Investigators also are looking at the death as a possible case of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). SIDS is defined as the sudden, unexpected death of an infant under age 1 that cannot be explained by an autopsy.

During the initial investigation, police blocked off a portion of Central Avenue and taped off the home. About 11:30 a.m. an Alameda County Sheriff's Office Coroner's Bureau van arrived at the scene.

Livermore Patch will update this story when further details are available.

Have you noticed that we never receive an update on many articles in Livermore? Never did hear a cause of the lady found dead in her own house off of college avenue (kingsbury street) a few months ago. It's like LPD is trying to hide or cover up something. heck her name was never release nor was there even an obit in the paper for a woman of her age. Guess the city of Livermore wants to pretend to keep their crime rate down to entice new residents.

I haven't had a chance to get back to the family, but I strongly suspect that the girl died from Sudden Unexpected Death in Childhood (http://www.sudc.org ). It's SIDS, but in children aged 1 to 14. After age 14, it's SUD. The autopsy may take some time to come back if the cause is SUDC. The official finding in the case of SUDC is "undetermined" in Alameda County, and they have to rule out all known causes. I ask that people be gentle with this family. Regardless of the cause, losing a child is horrific, something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
