Union City Deaths: Special Olympian Alexander Wolny, 28

Alexander Wolny: Wolny, of Union City, passed away Sept. 27, 2013. He was 28. Wolny battled cerebral palsy his entire life. Despite being limited to a wheelchair, Wolny remained an avid sports enthusiast and played little league baseball as a child. Later in life he became a Special Olympics team assistant coach and was named 2008 Special Olympian of the Year for Track & Field at James Logan High School. He was also named Special Athlete of the Year in 2010. In addition to sports, Wolny also enjoyed cooking, comedy and games shows.

Elias Ramirez Marquez: Marquez, of Union City, passed away in October 2013. He was 88. Marquez worked for Pacific State Steel for 32 years and Herrick Corporation for nine years. He is survived by his daughter and friends.

Jessie L. Sanchez: Sanchez, of Escalon, passed away Oct. 24, 2013. She was 89. Sanchez was born in Union City in 1924 and moved to Escalon with her husband, Frank, in 1960. She is survived by her two children, three grandchildren, a sister and 14 nieces and nephews.
