St. Anne’s Church to Hold Concert to Benefit Typhoon Haiyan Victims

Tickets to see singer Jun Polistico, who is from the region devastated by the storm, are $20.

St. Anne’s Catholic Parish in Union City will hold a concert Friday night to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, according to the Argus.

The typhoon is one of the most powerful storms ever to hit land, with authorities estimating a death toll in the Philippine city of Tlacoban as high as 10,000.

Union City has a large Filipino-American population, with the church’s congregation comprised of about 90 percent Filipino-Americans, according to the Argus. Many have relatives overseas.

In an effort to help provide relief, singer Jun Polistico, who is from the region devastated by Haiyan, will perform Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the church, located at 32223 Cabello St. in Union City.

Tickets are $20.

Other local groups are also leading efforts to provide support for storm vicitms.

Filipino youth and student group Anakbayan East Bay, which includes Union City residents, is planning donation drives to be held throughout the region. The organization is currently seeking volunteers to help collect donations. Those interested in getting involved and helping to collect donations are asked to email typhoonreliefabeb@gmail.com.
