Both events will be held Saturday.

Local community groups and businesses are taking action to help provide relief to the thousands of people impacted by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

The typhoon is one of the most powerful storms ever to hit land, leaving thousands dead in its wake. Authorities initially estimated up to 10,000 fatalities but the Philippine government said Tuesday that the number of deaths is closer to 2,000, according to CNN.

Union City is sister cities with the Philippine city of Baybay, located about 50 miles from Tacloban, the city hit hardest by the storm.
