Wednesday, Aug. 17

Off-limits for years, this week. The deck overlooks the pond at William Cann Civic Center Park and is fully Wi-Fi enabled. Patrons have access to a number of chairs as well as a convenient table.

Local firefighters took to the streets on Tuesday to raise money for locals with muscular dystrophy during their "" drive. Members of the local Alameda County Firefighters Association chapter stood on the corner of Decoto and Alvarado-Niles roads and flagged down drivers to put donations into their boots.

The latest police log contained reports of hate crimes, a home burglary and a child hit by a car. .

Thursday, Aug. 18

Earlier in the week, the California Citizens Redistricting Commission approved the final maps for Assembly, Senate, Congressional and Board of Equalization districts. As a result, the voting districts will change for the next 10 years. For Union City, that means splitting from Newark and Fremont in the State Assembly and Congressional districts.
