Monday, May 9

The Registrar of Voters certified and made official the election for Measure B, an emergency funding parcel tax for the New Haven Unified School District. The numbers stood as reported May 4, just shy of passing. As a result, class sizes may increase, the school year may be trimmed by five days and sports and music programs may be eliminated. However, some are already taking action to raise funds for the programs. See the full story .

The New Haven Unified School District recognized its . Among those honored were district Teacher of the Year Julie Panebianco, an English teacher and leader of the Puente Program at James Logan High School, and district Certified Employee of the Year Joan Wolfe, secretary at Searles Elementary School.

We sat down with Albert Pei, a 10-year-old finalist in the "Google 4 Doodle" national art contest. He's one of 40 finalists out of more than 100,000 submissions where students re-created Google's iconic logo. With Measure B failing, hundreds of James Logan High School students held a peaceful demonstration to raise awareness about cuts to the school district’s sports and music programs. .

This week's includes a report of a hotel robbery and a vandalism spree, among other incidents. 

A Union City man, , was arrested for possession of child pornography. No children lived at the address. Chow has since post bail.

Also on Friday, a Fremont man was convicted and sentenced to four years in prison for possessing child pornography and trying to extort explicit videos from a 14-year-old. The man, James Dale Brown, 28, harrassed the victim over Facebook. Read the full story .

Students Ignatius Nguyen, Mei-Guang Chen and Ryan Quilala won the Judge's Choice Award at the Project YouthView Film Festival earlier this week for their 30-second video "Freedoms in Motion."
