File this one under "What the heck was he thinking?": a Hayward parolee who police tried to stop on a seatbelt violation decided to lead Union City police on a chase through Union City and Fremont. While that already doesn't sound like a smart idea, he decided to use his car to ram pursuing police cars, not once but twice. While attempted to run over police officers during the second instance, the officers were forced to shoot at the man's car and wounded his passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Union City. The chase eventually came to a halt and the man was arrested. The woman, who suffered a gunshot wound to the hip, was treated at a local hospital. .

An elderly woman escaped death after her car was struck by a train traveling at 70 mph in the intersection of Railroad Avenue and H Street. Faith-based community group Congregations Organizing for Renewal held a community gathering to address violence in the city. During the meeting, youth and members of COR called on Mayor Mark Green to form a new committee to oversee the city's youth violence prevention program, which COR said needs to be strengthened.
