Sunday, June 26

A 22-year-old was critically wounded in a shooting on the 600 block of Whipple Road. The victim, who is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery, was shot around 8:30 p.m. in front of a home where two fatal shootings previously occurred, including one in May. Family and friends mourned the loss of , a 16-year-old James Logan High School student who passed away on June 18 due to heart complications. Her school counselor described her as an honors student who was friendly, happy and dedicated to becoming the first person in her family to attend college.

Tuesday, June 28

Gov. Jerry Brown announced that didn't call for tax extensions, but requires redevelopment agencies to be dissolved, which would impact several projects in Union City's station district. The plan was passed later in the week.

As part of their investigation, Union City police, along with Union City-Newark SWAT and Fremont SWAT teams, issued search warrants and raided a series of homes in the Decoto neighborhood. Fireworks sales started in Union City, which is one of only three Alameda County cities that allows legal fireworks.
