From the City of Union City's Public Works Department:
BART to Perform Night Work on Elevated Structure between ‘H’ and ‘I’ Streets
As part of BART’s system wide Earthquake Safety Program, BART is strengthening the elevated structures between ‘H’ Street and ‘I’ Street along 12th Street in Union City to withstand future earthquakes. For safety reasons, some of the work must be performed at night when BART trains are not in operations.
On Saturday, December 22, 2012 between the hours of midnight and 6:00 am, BART contractors will be installing protective plywood barriers to the top of the elevated structures. Handout flyers notifying the nearby residents were hand delivered. The area notified was between Railroad Avenue and 14th Street and between ‘G’ Street and ‘J’ Street.
To contact the Earthquake Safety Program or obtain additional information, please visit BART’s website at www.bart.gov/earthquakesafety or call BART’s Program Information Line at (510) 476-3876.
Union City Boulevard Corridor Improvements on Schedule
The Union City Boulevard Corridor Improvements, Phase 1 project is on schedule to be substantially complete in mid-January 2013. The two incomplete construction items after January will be a slurry seal application and installation of permanent pavement markings. This schedule is dependent on weather as the project has experienced delays due to the number of recent precipitation events.
The project will not be 100% complete until late- spring. The pavement within the project limits will receive a slurry seal treatment and installation of thermoplastic pavement markings. The slurry seal cannot be applied until the weather has warmed significantly to allow proper curing of the slurry material.
USD Work on Decoto Neighborhood
Union Sanitary District (USD) will be performing sanitary sewer repairs on 5th Street between Decoto Road and ‘H’ Street. This work will occur between the work hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on December 26, 27 and 28. The work will require the closure of 5th Street and one lane of southbound Decoto Road during the work hours. USD has indicated that access to properties within the work/road closure area will be maintained for affected residents.
