Highlights from the week of Feb. 6 – Feb. 12.

Here’s a look at some of the highlights from this past week:

Sunday, Feb. 6

A local institution, Paddy's Coffee House, celebrated its eight-year anniversary on Feb. 5. In between grubbing on pizza, garbanzo bean curry and guava cake, we managed to capture some moments from the night. Check out the photo gallery .

Monday, Feb. 7

The first in a series of sessions began at the Fremont Family Resource Center. The program runs through April 18 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A car on Cabello Street after swerving and hitting a rear corner of a parked car, which caused the car to flip over. Thankfully, no one in the vehicle -- two children and their father -- was severely injured.

The kicked off their campaign for a New Haven Unified School District parcel tax. The committee received hefty donations to help start up their campaign, which is estimated to cost $50,000.

Tuesday, Feb. 8

With Valentine’s Day coming up, family columnist Neena Barreto shared with readers how she shows her family that she loves them. Read her column .

Videographer Ken Guanga followed up with Nor-Cal Hobbies and Raceway as they unveiled their new . Remote control car enthusiasts can now race year-round.

The City Council voted unanimously to endorse , a school district parcel tax that would cost taxpayers an additional $180 a year. The council members agreed that the tax was a small price to pay to preserve programs and maintain class sizes.

Wednesday, Feb. 9

We debuted several new columns this week, the first of which is , a weekly roundup of special offers in Union City. This week, we listed five meal deals to help stretch the family budget.

Our second new feature is the , a list of family-friendly events and activities. We compiled a list of our top five events for the week, which include tonight’s Lunar New Year dinner and indoor skydiving at iFly.

We also launched Moms Talk, a new column by, for and about parents. Every Wednesday our Moms Council will weigh in on various topics with readers encouraged to add their opinions. Readers are still discussing this week’s topic: make up for tweens. Join the discussion .

Thursday, Feb. 10

Mayor Mark Green joined East Bay politicians at a rally in Oakland to support the state's redevelopment agencies. In his budget proposal, Gov. Jerry Brown calls for the agencies to be scrapped, a move that Green said is “one of the worst proposals that has come out of Sacramento [in] 40 years.” Read the full story and see a video of Green’s speech .

Friday, Feb. 11

The American Cancer Association’s comes to Union City in August. Organizers are looking for volunteers and sponsors for the 24-hour event.

While chaperoning children from his son’s day care on a field trip to Ardenwood Farm in Fremont, photographer Paciano Triunfo decided to snap some photos while they learned about monarch butterflies. See the photos in this week’s .

A Union City resident was identified as the driver in a on I-580 involving a motorcycle.

Saturday, Feb. 12
