FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

UNION CITY HISTORICAL MUSUEUM

Where/When: 3841 Smith St.; Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: It may be a small museum but it is stocked with a wealth of local artifacts and information. Those with ancestry in the area can trace their genealogy by checking citizenry records dating back to the 1800s!

Where/When: Tom Kitayama Elementary School; Friday, March 18 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Visit with families from Kitayama, eat some delicious food, enjoy entertainment and participate in their annual Silent Auction.

ZOOKIDS: PAWS AND CLAWS

Where/When: Oakland Zoo; Saturday, March 19 at 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: Sign up your kids ages 4 and 5 for a special program that includes a mini-hike, crafts, games and learning about how paws and claws help animals survive.

Pricing: $20 (members), $23 (non-members); pre-registration required.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT

Where/When: City Beach in Fremont; Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Let the kids enjoy rock climbing and inflatable bounce houses while the parents enjoy dinner at the restaurant and a game of foosball or table hockey.

Pricing: $10

LAWRENCE HALL OF SCIENCE

Where/When: Lawrence Hall of Science, Centennial Drive, Berkeley; daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Check out exhibits like the "KidsLab," a multisensory play area including larger-than-life blocks, a crawl-through kaleidoscope, the Gravity wall, a puppet theater and a reading area, or explore the skies in an interactive planetarium.

Pricing: $6-$12; free for children ages 2 and under
