Grab & Go Kids Planner: Feb. 9 to Feb. 15

Here's skydiving, art classes, a Lunar New Year festival and Olympic world record holders—pick and choose from this week's array of events.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children. 

Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

Where/When: James Logan High School; Saturday, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Why Go: Participate in a learn-by-doing clinic for all ages. If that's not enough, special guests include Kevin Young, world record holder, 400 hurdles; Mike Powell, world record holder, long jump; and Stephanie Brown, 2008 gold medalist, discus.

Pricing: $10 for youth; $20 for adults; $350 per team.

Where/When: Smith and Watkins streets; Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Why Go: Make fresh and sustainable food fun. Get your whole family involved in the foods they eat by interacting with local farmers and small business owners.

Pricing: Free to browse, but hard to resist buying some of that fresh produce.

Where/When: Jan Small Art Studio in Fremont;  Monday and Tuesday, 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m., and Monday evenings,  7-8 p.m.

Why Go: Art is a great confidence booster at any age. Take the whole family to this class that adults and children can enjoy together.

Pricing: $15 per lesson.

Where/When: The Oakland Asian Cultural Center; Saturday, noon-4 p.m.

Why Go: Activities will include cultural art projects for families and performances by OACC teachers/artists and their students.

Pricing: Free.

INDOOR SKYDIVING

Where/When: iFLY SF Bay; Monday through Friday, noon-11 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m.-110 p.m.

Why Go: No experience necessary, fun for all ages (as young as 3), and it's a realistic flight experience the whole family can try together.

Pricing: Prices vary. Come in during the discount flight time, Monday through Friday from noon to 5:00 p.m., or check out the family package.
