Gas Prices Take a Late Summer Leap

Triple A says prices in the East Bay have risen 20 cents per gallon in the past month.

Gasoline prices in the East Bay have taken a significant leap during the past month.

The California State Automobile Association reported Tuesday that the average price of regular unleaded in the East Bay is now $3.94. That's 20 cents a gallon more than in mid-August.

In the entire Bay Area, the average price is now $4 for a gallon unleaded regular. That's 12 cents higher than a month ago.

In California, the average price now stands at $3.95 -- 17 cents more than last month.

β€œAlthough demand for gasoline has fallen over the past week, which would typically help keep prices down, storms in the Gulf and East Coasts have applied upward pressure on gasoline prices in several parts of the country,” explained AAA Northern California spokesperson Matt Skryja.

The average gas price in Union City is about $3.93 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com and a mapquest site that tracks prices. The cheapest gas reported on GasBuddy Wednesday was $3.79 at .

Castro Valley continues to have some of the cheaper gas in the East Bay, according to the Mapquest site. Prices on the site range from $3.85 to $3.87. The Quik Stop markets on Lake Chabot Road and Grove Way are the cheapest ones on the site.

In Walnut Creek, stations are listed between $3.89 and $4.03 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

In San Ramon, there is a range of $3.87 to $3.97 a gallon.

Livermore stations have a range of $3.86 to the $4.15 per gallon listed for the Chevron station near the North Livermore exit on Interstate 580.

In San Leandro, prices hover between $3.89 and $3.97 per gallon.
