What Should Replace Tony Roma's?

The Union City eatery has closed up shop.

The pigs have flown away.

Tony Roma's in Union City has closed, making it the second vacant building located directly across from Century 25 movie theater. Fresh Choice closed its doors approximately one year ago.

If you're looking to grub on some good ol' American ribs will have to head to another spot. Luckily, Texas Road House and Chili's aren't too far. The nearest Tony Roma's to the Tri-Cities, however, is in San Jose

So, Tri-Cities, what business would you like to see replace the former Tony Roma's restaurant? Share your thoughts in our comments section below.

The only problem with buses and shuttles is that it can take more than 90 minutes to get there, and they shut down early in the evening. Not to mention that waiting for a bus or shuttle is a good way to be mugged or sexually assaulted. Coming from out of Union City - or even some parts of Union City would require a mile or more of walking to access mass transit. The reason that a "healthy food" place - such as the former Fresh Choice - won't work in the space is that there is no place to park.

True. No parking and quite a bit of traffic, especially when the schools start and get out and people are heading to and from work. I guess does not make a bagel shop the answer for that particular site. We'll keep trying though. I could see a Raider's shop there.

Well, there is no good barbeque in the Bay Area - nothing to compare with Kansas City or Austin or Memphis. And, at least in those places, people will put up with anything in order to get good barbeque. That includes inadequate parking, long lines, not enough tables - anything but bad food. That's a possibility and is ok food for the theatre crowd. But the best bbq places usually open for lunch until they are sold out, so if it's really good they might not be open for the evening crush because all the food might be gone - when ribs take 5-6 hours and brisket 12-16 you can't just cook up another batch. Anyway, that would be my vote. I don't want to see another chain restaurant - they define a lack of character. There is nothing wrong with chain restaurants other than we have too many and I can't get excited about "let's go try the new McDonald's" - it's pointless. If it's going to be a chain at least let it be one we don't have out West - A Waffle House, a What-a-burger, a White Castle. They all serve their purpose and and lest they'd be different for here.

An arcade like Tilt in the newpark mall or dave and busters, nothing bundt cakes, a crepe bar, a disney or build a bear workshop would be nice for that part of the area. It feels like if we add more and more food shops and restaurants, union landing will become almost like a giant food court!

How about, now get this... a book store!!! Only one I know of in the area anymore is Half Price Books...
Betsy January 14, 2013 at 03:38 AM
jack in the box would probably do great busines since the closet one is a out of the way for union city folk. I love the book store and the fish restaurant idea. what unon city really needs is a new name that no one else in the bay area has like incredible johns pizza. they would have done great in ana's furniture store

No good barbecue? There used to be a great one in Fremont (Southern Heritage), but it closed a few months ago when the owner retired. Sorry you missed out on it. There's tons of great barbecue in Oakland and Contra Costa County, too. You have to get out a little for it. I imagine there's some in San Jose -- I went to a place near the airport that was very good. Sounds like you made up your mind before exploring. (Yes, I am from the south.)

An Indoor Gun Range.
Huy January 15, 2013 at 05:22 PM
Boiling Crab! That place would be busy 24/7 and definitely draw in huge crowds. In place of Ana's furniture could be Dave and Busters or Trader Joe's. Sweet Tomato and Fish Market are also nice places.
Huy January 15, 2013 at 05:22 PM
Oh and Macaroni Grill would be nice too.

This is not Arora, Colorado. Firearms and theaters don't mix. Now a "lazer Tag" or " arcade with Flight Simulators might work.

But I am HUNGRY!
Union City Person January 16, 2013 at 01:49 AM
I want a bookstore more than anything, but I want it where Border's used to be, where I can find a place to PARK!
Union City Person January 16, 2013 at 01:54 AM
IF it's a fast food place, I'd rather have Wendy's or Dairy Belle, the one with the "chocolate" dipped soft serve ice cream cones. There's one of those across from Hayward Kaiser Hospital.
Union City Person January 16, 2013 at 01:57 AM
OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE!!!!!!!!!
Union City Person January 16, 2013 at 01:58 AM
....and they have delicious spareribs, too.
Union City Person January 16, 2013 at 02:00 AM
I want someplace where the food is good enough that when we are not at the theater, we can pick up some food to take home to eat. And I really do want great ribs, fish, calamari, burgers. If we dine in, then there has to be tables and chairs.
Edward January 17, 2013 at 02:46 AM
"Bong City Canibus Club". Maybe not this year but who knows. The State sells liquor Licences for $100,000.00 each, maybe they will balance the budget with Canibus in the Future. In any case, they both make you "Feel Better" when you just got fired or your wife just left you. (Or they closed your favorite resturant
Edward January 17, 2013 at 02:48 AM
"BONG CITY BAKERY" does sound catchy.
Edward January 17, 2013 at 02:57 AM
You want Imagination? How About "BONG City Canibus Club and Bakery". The other big draw other than Wal-Mart. Open it right next to "M" 's indoor gun range (see post above). 30 years ago they had "Cupid's Adult Book Store" in old Alvarado. Maybe it's time for a come back. There have been some good ideas here. Let's hope we get a good eatery in either of the two empty locations.
Edward January 17, 2013 at 03:02 AM
Sounds like Fudruckers nexrt door. All but the Calamari. "Crab Pot" or" Crab and POT". ( Colorado only.)

I would love to see a Buffalo Wild Wings there, that place has great wings and is very sports oriented.
William B Wood January 29, 2013 at 11:31 PM
I would support a Planet Hollywood or a BJs. In exchange for closing Texas Outhouse and converting that space into parking WBW
Emmanuel R Amezquita February 02, 2013 at 03:20 PM
They should open a Tilted Kilt!!
Nicolle Rodriguez April 07, 2013 at 12:25 AM
Yes I agree a Tilted Kilt would be perfect there!!
